Filtration is the most over-specified and under-engineered category in commercial water treatment. Buy too small and you blow through media, lose pressure at peak load, and starve downstream equipment. Buy generic and you remove the wrong contaminant. We start with the analysis and the operating profile, then specify media, vessel size, freeboard, and backwash flow that actually fits.

Sizing Done Right

Service flow, peak flow, backwash flow, freeboard, contact time (EBCT), and pressure drop are not interchangeable. We will publish the design basis with the proposal — the gallons per minute we sized for, the contaminant load we assumed, and the expected media life. If anything changes upstream, the spec is there to reopen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Carbon block or backwashing GAC?

Carbon blocks excel at point-of-use polishing for ice, coffee, and post-mix. Backwashing granular activated carbon (GAC) is the right answer for whole-facility chlorine and chloramine removal — better contact time, longer life, and lower pressure drop.

Will filtration handle PFAS for our operation?

It can. Granular activated carbon and specialty ion exchange resins both remove PFAS, with different breakthrough and disposal profiles. We size based on your raw water PFAS, target effluent, and operating cost preference, and we monitor for breakthrough on a defensible schedule.

How often does media need to change?

It depends on the contaminant load. Carbon for municipal chlorine commonly runs 3–5 years; high-organic surface water or PFAS service can be much shorter. We sample influent and effluent on a published schedule so changeouts happen on data, not the calendar.
