Commercial Water Softening Systems
Solutions
We size, install, and maintain commercial softeners that keep boilers, dish machines, ice makers, laundry, and cooling loops running at design efficiency.
Every grain of hardness that hits a heat exchanger eventually becomes scale, and every millimeter of scale on a heat-transfer surface meaningfully reduces efficiency. In a hotel, restaurant, hospital, or manufacturing plant that translates to higher gas and electric bills, more frequent boiler descales, ruined linens, etched glassware, ice machines that fail in 3 years instead of 10, and warranty claims kitchen equipment manufacturers will not honor. A correctly sized commercial water softener pays itself back in months, not years.
How Commercial Softening Differs From Residential
Residential softeners regenerate on a schedule a single household never notices. Commercial loads cannot tolerate any window of hard water — a single batch of dish machine cycles with hard water can spot every glass in a restaurant. We address this with twin-alternating and triplex configurations that keep one tank in service while the others regenerate, plus high-capacity resin, brine reclaim, and meter-on-demand control to minimize salt and water use under variable load.
Equipment Configurations
- Single-tank metered — small facilities with predictable off-hours
- Twin-alternating — continuous soft water for restaurants, hotels, laundries
- Triplex / progressive flow — high-flow industrial and process loads
- Brine reclaim and proportional brining — cut salt and waste water 20–40%
- High-capacity and fine-mesh resin for high-iron or high-TDS feedwater
- Stainless and FRP vessels sized 9-inch through 63-inch diameter
Typical Applications
- Boiler make-up and steam systems (zero hardness required)
- Commercial dish machines, glasswashers, and combi ovens
- Hotel and resort hot water loops (showers, laundry, kitchen)
- Ice makers, post-mix beverage, coffee, and espresso programs
- Commercial laundries, linen services, and on-premises laundry (OPL)
- Cooling tower make-up (paired with controlled blowdown)
- Pre-treatment ahead of RO membranes
Service Plans and Salt Delivery
We monitor performance, run hardness checks, change resin on a defensible schedule, and handle salt delivery on a route. Most accounts move to an all-in monthly program that covers softener service, salt, and replacement guarantees so plant managers can budget a single line item instead of managing parts and labor reactively.
Frequently Asked Questions
What hardness level do you target?
Zero grains for boiler make-up and any heat-transfer surface above 140°F. Soft (under 1 gpg) for general facility hot water, kitchens, and laundry. We will publish the target on your service report so you can verify it on demand.
How do we know the softener is keeping up?
We install sample taps and document hardness on every service visit. For critical loops we can add continuous online hardness monitoring with alarming so you find out before your dish machine does.
Will softened water cause problems in our cooling tower?
Softened make-up is standard practice in many cooling tower programs, but it changes the cycles-of-concentration math and requires controlled blowdown. We work with your water treater (or provide the program ourselves) so chemistry and equipment stay in sync.
Can you take over an existing softener?
Yes. We will audit valve diagnostics, resin condition, brine system, and capacity vs. actual demand, then either rebuild and keep the asset in service or quote a replacement. No pressure either way.
