Membrane technology covers a wide spectrum, and choosing wisely matters. Microfiltration and ultrafiltration knock out particulates and microbiology at the front end. Nanofiltration selectively removes hardness, color, and large organics without the energy cost of full RO. Membrane bioreactors enable reuse and discharge compliance. CEDI replaces resin regeneration on polished water. We design the train, not just the equipment.
Ultrafiltration (UF)
Hollow-fiber UF removes suspended solids, colloids, bacteria, and many viruses, producing membrane-grade water for RO feed or direct use. Standard for surface-water pre-treatment, food and beverage clarification, and water reuse.
Nanofiltration (NF)
NF rejects hardness, sulfates, and larger organics while passing monovalent ions like sodium and chloride. Useful where you want to soften and partially desalinate without driving RO-level energy cost, and for color/tannin removal in surface-water systems.
Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
MBR combines biological treatment with membrane filtration, producing a high-quality effluent suitable for discharge or reuse in cooling, irrigation, or process. Used in food processing, hospitality reuse, and remote facilities with limited POTW capacity.
Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI)
CEDI continuously deionizes RO permeate using electricity instead of acid/caustic regeneration. Lower chemistry burden, smaller footprint, and standard for high-purity boiler feed and pharmaceutical pre-treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should we use UF instead of cartridge filters?
Often yes. UF gives you a validated barrier against bacteria and a much sharper particle cutoff than cartridge filters, with longer service life and lower operating cost on dirtier feedwater. We will model both and recommend honestly.
Is NF cheaper than RO?
Per gallon of treated water, often yes — lower operating pressure means lower energy and a smaller hydraulic footprint. Whether it is the right answer depends on what you actually need rejected.
